Eagle Cliff Project, Bowen Island

Location: Bowen Island, BC

Project Scope:

Our clients needed help designing this new build on Bowen Island. Their goal was to maximize their kitchen and dining room while being conscious of the location of the home. Because of this, we included elements throughout the space that nod to the nature surrounding the property.

Their love of cooking made us focus primarily on functionality. The design created lots of counter space with two different countertops; one solid colour on the island and a stunning slab on the perimeter carrying from the countertop all the way to the backsplash to create a feature. The movement and colours in the stone resemble nature and tie nicely with the great outdoors found around the home. We added asymmetrical shelves and open-and-enclosed solutions throughout the kitchen to provide tons of storage options. The materials we used were a painted cabinetry finish and Shinnoki (a real wood veneer finish) to balance the space and add a natural element.

To create a casual dining experience, we added a large banquette (with storage) to the island to easily accommodate more guests when needed. We wanted to highlight and take advantage of the stunning floor-to-ceiling windows, so we incorporated a bar overlooking the trees. Making it the best seat in the space to sip their morning coffee, enjoy a glass of wine at the end of the day and have additional seating when entertaining.
